The Society for Social Medicine and Population Health will host an early career workshop “Forging a career in social medicine and population health research in Ireland” on 11 January 2019 at Trinity College Dublin.

In the morning, Dr Peter Tennant will provide an overview of the Society for Social Medicine & Population Health. Dr Annalisa Montesanti will then discuss the Health Research Board Research Funding Strategy 2020 & opportunities for ECRs. Dr Robert Murphy from the Department of Health will highlight advances in behavioural change research, followed by Prof John Browne, UCC, who will speak about the SPHeRE Programme.

In the afternoon, Dr Sarah Gibney from the Department of Health will speak about experiences of career paths in Population Health. Dr Ali Khashan from UCC will then focus on maximizing research opportunities with secondary data. Finally, Dr Catherine Houghton, QUESTS Co-Chair, will speak about maximising the role of qualitative research in clinical trials.
